Blurb (from Goodreads):

Eighteen-year-old Myla Lewis is a girl who loves two things: kicking ass and kicking ass. She’s not your every day quasi-demon, half-demon and half-human, girl. For the past five years, Myla has lived for the days she gets to fight in Purgatory’s arena. When souls want a trial by combat for their right to enter heaven or hell, they go up against her, and she hasn’t lost a battle yet.

But as she starts her senior year at Purgatory High, the arena fights aren’t enough to keep her spirits up anymore. When the demons start to act weird, even for demons, and the King of the Demons, Armageddon, shows up at Myla’s school, she knows that things are changing and it’s not looking good for the quasi-demons. Myla starts to question everything, and doesn’t like the answers she finds. What happened seventeen years ago that turned the quasi-demons into slave labor? Why was her mom always so sad? And why won’t anyone tell her who her father is? Things heat up when Myla meets Lincoln, the High Prince of the Thrax, a super sexy half-human and half-angel demon hunter. But what’s a quasi-demon girl to do when she falls for a demon hunter? It’s a good thing that Myla’s not afraid of breaking a few rules. With a love worth fighting for, Myla’s going to shake up Purgatory.

***Angelbound is now an audiobook read by the author, Christina Bauer***

Sooo, this was my first audiobook experience and I have to say, I had a blast! I didn’t know I was going to enjoy Angelbound this much, it was a pretty great ride.

Myla Lewis lives in the Purgatory along with her mother which is ruled by the ghouls. She is a quasi-demon who enjoys fighting in the arena more than studying in Purgatory High. But when the demons start acting weird and Armageddon, the king of Hell shows up at their own school, she begins to suspect that something far more dangerous is going on. Things couldn’t get more complicated when she begins to fall for Lincoln who is a demon hunter. Along with that, she finds out all these troubles might be related to her very own heritage. Now it’s up to Myla to figure out everything before it’s too late.

The plot was gripping. I was on the edge from the very start and there was never a dull moment in this book. Myla is a resident of Purgatory. I loved her from the beginning. She was sassy, brave and was not afraid to break the rules. Her mother has never disclosed about anything about her father and how many times she tries to ask her mother, she gets nothing. I liked her curiosity and the fact that she didn’t give up easily. She meets Lincoln, the high prince of the Thrax who is also demon hunters in the library while searching information about her heritage. At first, Lincoln came off as rude and judgemental but then we really got to know him, and damn he was not only swoon-worthy but an awesome guy as well, the perfect partner in crime that Myla always wanted. The chemistry between was cracking and I shipped them sooo much! The little bit of forbidden element also added some spice to their relationship.

The world building was amazing. I loved learning more how everything functioned in Purgatory. Among all the ghouls, I only loved Walker who was like Myla’s big brother, the rest were simply loath-worthy. One of the best things about this book was the back story of Myla’s heritage and the war that took place hundreds of years ago which she learns with the help of the Queen of the Angels, Verus. It was really interesting to how everything went down and the important role Myla’s mother played in it. Along with Myla, my perspective of her mother changed as the story proceeded. Cissy, Mila’s best friend, and Zeke were nice additions in this story and I definitely enjoyed their characters as well.

The plot twist was really great. At first, when Mila thought what her heritage was, I didn’t think that would be it and when the real thing is revealed, I knew it was coming but it didn’t lessen my surprise in any way. I really, really hated Armageddon. He was not satisfied being the king the of hell, he wanted more power and control. The feeling of deja-vu hit me when I understood how exactly things were happening. I enjoyed learning about the various kinds of demons Myla fought along with the fighting and the adventure in this story. I can’t wait to read the second book and see what happens next!

The audiobook is narrated by the author herself, and I couldn’t be more happy with my first audiobook experience. It was pretty time-consuming but so worth it. Each character had a different and unique voice and I enjoyed the narration so much. The whole world of Myla and her friends came alive through the narration.

Overall, Angelbound was a fantastic read. The plot was executed neatly and I fell in love with the characters. I loved the romance between Myla and Lincoln and the narration made everything more fun. I am definitely looking forward to reading more by this author.

Recommend it?

Yes!
