I had the pleasure of interviewing Brenda Drake, the author of The Fated series which is a really interesting series. I enjoyed reading both the books in this series, especially Cursing Fate. You can read my review of Cursing Fate i.e. book 2, here and Touching Fate i.e. book 1, here. Without further ado I present you the…

Interview

Welcome to my little blog! I am so glad to have you here today.

I’m thrilled to be here!

1. Cursing Fate was such an interesting read! What was your inspiration for the plot of this book?

I got the inspiration for the Fated series while in New Orleans. I was there for a convention, and a group of us had our tarot cards read. Afterward, I kept seeing a girl changing someone’s fate. But there was a price for changing fates. Sister bonds are so important to me, so I imagined a family of girls being inflicted by this magic. The first book, Touching Fate, delved into fate changing. In Cursing Fate it was fun to explore a different side of the magic–possession and cursed tarot cards.

2. Tell us a bit about your writing process.

I always have to start with a cup of coffee (or two). Before I begin writing a story, I’ve already seen it play out in my mind. I follow a skeletal plot graph and let the story take over while following the road map I’d drafted. Ideas for scenes play in my head while in bed waiting to fall asleep or just as I’m waking up. I’m a dreamer, so I guess that’s where all my stories start. I don’t write the dreams (or sort of dreams) down. Whatever I remember by the time I sit down to write, makes it into the book. I figure if it’s important enough, I won’t forget it. I’m not sure this is a good plan.

3. What is the thing that you enjoy the most about writing?

Escaping into a story, creating a new world and getting to know the characters. I would say all of it, but there are few things that can be difficult and tedious, but mostly I enjoy it all.

4. Give us a fun fact about your book.

Wade is a nod to a good friend’s brother. I had a massive crush on him. They had lived next to us on the military base where we were stationed. I was in fifth grade. I spent most of my time hanging out at my friend’s house. Her brother was exactly like Wade, good looking and kind. They moved after six months. Their father got stationed in California. We lost touch, which is sad.

5. If you could spend time with any one of the characters from the Fated series, who would you choose and why?

Um. Wade. Naturally. But then I’d have to magically be seventeen again. He would be so much fun on a date, and very romantic.

6. Are you working on any new project that the readers should be aware of?

I’ve already written the third book in the Fated series, Seeking Fate, which will release next year. I also turned in another book, Thunderstruck, and it should release next year, too. I’m currently working on Assassin of Truths, the third book in my Library Jumpers series. The second book in that series, Guardian of Secrets, releases February 7, 2017.

7. What is your advice for aspiring authors?

Read often and widely, and never give up. The road to publication is often a bumpy one with many twists and turns, but if you abandon your journey, you’ll never realize your dream.

It was great having you on my blog today! Thank you so much and I wish you much success in the future.

Thank you for having me!

Book Info:

Title: Cursing Fate (The Fated, #2)

Genre: Paranormal, Romance, [Young-Adult]

Blurb (from Goodreads):

There’s something strange about the Layne sisters, and Wade Diaz wants nothing to do with them. Especially the one who ripped his heart out and set it on fire before tossing it in the garbage several months ago. Iris. He can’t even think her name without unconsciously rubbing the spot in his chest where she left a gaping hole. But now her sisters are claiming some evil spirit is after his soul, and Iris is the only one who can save him. Well, at least his heart would stop hurting, right? Didn’t sound so bad.

Iris Layne has always been the sweet sister. She’s kind to everyone, including her best friend Wade… Until she makes a horrible mistake and breaks his heart. All she wants is to go back to before ‘the dumping’. Of course, Wade would rather see her in hell first. But then Iris touches her sister’s tarot cards and unleashes an evil curse intent on playing a deadly game where no one Iris loves is safe, especially Wade.

How do you convince someone they need your help when you’re the one who hurt them most?

Title: Touching Fate (The Fated, #1)

Genre: Paranormal, Romance, [Young-Adult]

Blurb (from Goodreads):

One touch is all it takes…

Aster Layne believes in physics, not psychics. A tarot card reading on the Ocean City Boardwalk should have been a ridiculous, just-for-fun thing. It wasn’t. Aster discovers she has a very unscientific gift with a simple touch of the cards, she can change a person’s fate.

Reese Van Buren is cursed. Like the kind of old-school, centuries-old curse that runs in royal families. Every firstborn son is doomed to die on his eighteenth birthday and Reese’s is coming up fast. Bummer. He tries to distract himself from his inevitable death…only to find the one person who can save him.

Aster doesn’t know that the hot Dutch guy she’s just met needs her help or that he’s about to die.
But worst of all…she doesn’t know that her new gift comes with dark, dark consequences that can harm everyone she loves.

Author Bio:

brendaBrenda Drake grew up the youngest of three children, an Air Force brat, and the continual new kid at school. Her fondest memories growing up is of her eccentric, Irish grandmother’s animated tales, which gave her a strong love for storytelling. So it was only fitting that she would choose to write stories with a bend toward the fantastical. When she’s not writing or hanging out with her family, she haunts libraries, bookstores, and coffee shops, or reads someplace quiet and not at all exotic (much to her disappointment).
