Blurb (from Goodreads):

Her life changed in an instant.

And he’s the only one who could have prevented it.

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Pact and The Lie comes a new standalone contemporary romance about those McGregor men.

Jessica Charles shouldn’t have even been in London when the unthinkable happened.

She should have been back at home in Edinburgh, perhaps hanging with her boyfriend, having drinks with her sister or doing yoga with her group of friends. She should have been going on in her normal, dependable life as always.
But on that fateful day in August, when a mentally-ill ex-soldier opened fire in public, Jessica’s world changed forever.

Now single and crippled from the gunshot wounds, Jessica finds herself scared and alone, losing faith in herself and humanity with each agonizing moment that passes.

That is until a stranger enters her life. A stranger who makes her live again.

Keir McGregor has always been the strong, silent type. Throw in tall, dark, and handsome and you’ve got pretty much the perfect Scotsman.

Except Keir is anything but perfect. He’s got a past he’s running away from and a guilty conscience he can’t seem to shed. But the more time he spends with Jessica, the more he falls in love with her.

And the more his secret threatens to tear them apart.

He may have been a stranger to her.

But she’s never been a stranger to him.

USEEEEEEEEE

This book was such a roller coaster ride! I loved it from the beginning and there was not a dull moment in this book and it managed to hold my interest till the end!

Jessica’s life turns upside down when she gets trapped in a crossfire. Everybody tells her she is lucky to survive the shooting but she doesn’t feel that way. When she meets Keir, her opinions start changing. He sees her for who she is she and soon they both find themselves falling for each other. But Keir is hiding a secret, a secret that could tear them apart. What happens when the truth comes out?

The plot was pretty intriguing! I loved how everything was handled and it wasn’t like any other cliched NA story I’ve read. The story caught my attention from the very first page. It starts with an offbeat and casual tone but then it suddenly pulls us into the middle of the drama. I loved the mystery surrounding Keir’s character, it was well maintained. Though I did guess a little but I loved how it was finally revealed. I loved Jessica and Keir’s chemistry! I enjoyed how their relationship proceeded and how they both pushed each other and made the other person better. Their romance was absolutely awesome!

The characters were pretty well rounded. I liked Jessica’s character and I felt so bad considering her situation but she handled it so maturely. I loved Keir’s no nonsense attitude and the fact that he could understand Jessica so well. When things went upside down, I loved how Keir fought for Jessica, it was soo sweet! The story flowed smoothly and I also liked the side characters especially Jessica’s sister who was a pretty awesome. I loved the bond between the two sisters.

Overall, The Debt was an engaging read! The story was executed neatly and the characters managed to keep my interest throughout the book. I loved Keir and Jessica together! The writing was smooth and easy to read and the pace was even throughout the book. I recently e-hauled some of Halle’s books and now I can’t wait to dive into them!

Recommend it?
