Blurb (from Goodreads):
In this heart-wrenching tale of love and loss, a young Marine and his best friend’s sister plunge into a forbidden love affair while he’s home on leave.
When a Marine Chaplain knocks on her door, Jessa’s heart breaks— someone she loves is dead. Killed in action, but is it Riley or Kit? Her brother or her boyfriend…
Three months earlier, Marine Kit Ryan finds himself back home on leave and dangerously drawn to his best friend Riley’s sister, Jessa— the one girl he can’t have. Exhausted from fighting his feelings, Kit finally gives in, and Jessa isn’t strong enough to resist diving headfirst into a passionate relationship.
But what was just supposed to be a summer romance develops into something far greater than either of them expected. Jessa’s finally found the man of her dreams and Kit’s finally discovered there’s someone he’d sacrifice everything for.
When it’s time for Kit to redeploy, neither one is ready to say goodbye. Jessa vows to wait for him and Kit promises to come home to her. No matter what.
But as Jessa stands waiting for the Marine Chaplain to break her heart, she can’t help but feel that Kit has broken his promise…
Riley or Kit? Kit or Riley? Her brother or her boyfriend? Who’s coming home to her?
This was one beautiful book, it turned my feelings into a MUSHY GUSHY MESS and I enjoyed this hell of a ride. I wasn’t expecting this much but I was glad that this book didn’t dissapoint and it was everything I expected and so much more.
Jessa had liked Kit, her brother’s best friend for a long time and she feels he might finally reciprocate this time. Her brother and Kit both are marines and they back for only a month before they go back to their jobs once again. Kit knows Jessa’s forbidden to him but they’re both unable to stay away from each other as they give in to their desires. Their relationship turns into something much more in a short span and Kit promises to come back to her before leaving for a year. But then disaster strikes. Jessa knows it’s going to break her heart either way, because it might be the news of her brother’s death or her boyfriend’s.
Come Back to Me was indeed a beautiful and heartbreaking story that I fell in love with. It’s gripping from the very first page as we learn that the news of the death about Jessa’s boyfriend or her brother has come. Then it takes us into a flashback ride of that one month where she fell in lovd with Kit. I absolutely loved their whirlwind romance. They both liked each other for quite a long time but they didn’t act upon their feelings. Finally unable to resist Kit takes the first step and then there’s no stopping them. Their chemistry was undeniable, although things were moving a bit too fast, it felt quite natural. It sounds cheesy but I was sucked into their story as they discovered true love for the first time.
But this book is more than just a love story. It’s also about guilt, forgiveness, moving on and finding peace. I can’t actually say everything without giving away much but everything felt realistic and heartwarming. The characters were pretty great in this book. I really liked Jessa. She was sweet and smart and Kit really brought out another side of her. Although it took her a long time but I was glad she finally stood up to her dad. Kit was definitely awsome. He was oh so romantic and definitely swoon worthy. And I liked Riley, Jessa’s brother as well. He was an overprotective big brother but I would have really liked it if he actually spend some time with Jessa willingly when he was back home instead with his girlfriend every single minute. I would’ve loved to see some sibling bonding.
I enjoyed the family aspect of this story. I didn’t like Jessa’s dad at first, after knowing the reason why he turned out like that I felt really bad but that was no excuse to treat your own children like that. Nonetheless, I was very much glad to see that he finally took some help and redeemed himself. Kit’s father was a great character whom I immediately liked. The suspense was well maintained about the tragic news but the revelation felt over too soon, I didn’t get any time to process my emotions and it was over, just like that. Also the ending felt a bit, only a teene-tiny bit rushed. I would have enjoyed if things went a little more slowly but nonetheless it was a satisfying ending.
Overall, Come Back to Me was a heartwarming read which I enjoyed very much. The plot was neatly executed and I fell in love with the characters. The chemistry between Jessa and Kit was simply amazing and their romance felt perfect to me. The writing was smooth and easy to read and the pace was even throughout the book. This book was quite addictive and I easily finished it in two sittings. I’m definitely looking forward to read more works by this author.
