Blurb (from Goodreads):
She can forgive, but can she forget?
Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn’t matter that she’s moved on, that she’s about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can’t hurt her-because he’s in a coma. Except that he’s not anymore.
August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she’s the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man.
Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that this August is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever . . .
OMG THAT ENDING!!! Seriously, that was a hell of a cliffhanger! How do I wait for the next book for so long? I reeeaally want it right now! This book totally took me by surprise. I didn’t know what to expect, I could guess Forgetting August was a story of a second chance romance by reading the blurb but I didn’t expect it to be this good.
The story revolves around the lives of August and Everly. August wakes up after 2 years of coma in a hospital with an amnesia. He can’t remember anything about his past life. When he sees a picture of him with a girl in his belongings he knows she has the answers to his past. He desperately wants to know what kind of a man he was after seeing Everly’s reaction. What he learns makes him wish he never heard it in the first place. Everly doesn’t want anything to do with him anymore but he can’t help but feel the pull towards her. It’s not long before he understands that she may feel the same as well. But can he get the girl without becoming the monster once again or will it be too late when the past comes haunting back?
Maybe sometimes love isn’t pure. Maybe sometimes it’s toxic- so toxic it consumes a person until they will do anything to have it. Like a drug.
And that was exactly the relationship between August and Everly, it was toxic, a love that had the power to destroy them. I was sucked into this book from the very first page. The mystery about August’s past was well maintained, I found myself turning the pages eagerly to know what lied behind the closed doors. Their relationship was everything but not simple. Everly tried her best to move on with her life but when it came to August, her life would stand still at that point.
Because life really didn’t move on from a person such as August Kincaid. No, you simply learned to adapt and above all, you survived.
August wakes up from coma after 2 years and when Everly learns he has amnesia, at first she thinks it’s all an act before finally believing him. Although she was running from him and he didn’t remember a single thing about her, yet their connection was very strong and it felt realistic. Everly had to struggle very much before she finally gave him a second chance. She could finally see the old August with whom she fell in love with, before he completely turned into a cold hearted monster. But I had such a hard time believing it, because August was anything but that. He was so genuinely caring and sweet, and even made note to remember every tini-tiny thing Everly liked. I knew there must be some thing, of course there was, his part of the story was missing, hopefully we’ll get the full scoop in the next book. I can’t wait to know everything behind the mystery, the suspense is killing me!
I liked Everly’s character except a tini-tiny thing but nonetheless she was a woman who emerged out strong after going through so much. She still had to fight her inner demons, her struggle felt so real. I liked Ryan as well, he was a simple and caring guy and really loved Everly but when it came to August, hands down people. I absolutely loved it when Everly was with August, their chemistry was undeniable and sizzling hot. I really enjoyed their relationship, both of them wanted to be a better person when they were together.
Overall, Forgetting August was a bit different than any other second chance romance I have ever read. The plot was executed brilliantly and the characters felt pretty real. I simply loved the relationship between August and Everly and I can’t wait to see how everything goes after the way it ended! The writing style was beautiful and smooth. It managed to keep me on the edge throughout the book and I was left wanting for more. The pace was even throughout the book and absolutely none of the part felt rushed at all. I will definitely be looking forward to read other works by this author.
