Blurb (from Goodreads):
Holly Hart has it all: designer clothes, affluent friends, a recording contract, and she’s dating the biggest pop star in America.
It’s too bad he can’t be seen with her in public. It’s even worse that he seems so very cozy with Lacey, the girl who seems to enjoy stealing Holly’s dream and taking all the credit for their platinum-selling album.
And Lacey? Well she couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, but that hasn’t stopped her from basking in the glow of the fame and fortune that comes with pretending to be Holly.
Yet, Holly signed a contract vowing to never reveal her true identity as the girl behind the hit songs. Her record label doesn’t want anyone to know their teen dream is really a chubby, insecure girl from Iowa.
Holly needs to focus on finals. She can’t let herself be distracted by the extremely hot and talented Grayson Frost or his prevailing attachment to Lacey. This is the deal Holly made, and she has to honor it no matter how much she hates it.
As if that’s not enough pressure, her grandparents have come to stay, her mom is dating a guy who makes his own deodorant, Shell Shocked Records want Holly to distance herself from Grayson, and she’ll probably end up failing Driver’s Ed.
In a town full of gossip and secrets, Holly wonders just how much longer she can continue to live a double life.
When the media gets a little too close for comfort, both Holly and Lacey are at risk. Soon Holly realizes her dream isn’t only about her and if she is to ever be truly happy, she’ll need to find a way past her insecurities.
Holly Hearts Headlines started right after where book 1 left off. You can read my review for book 1, i.e. Holly Hearts Hollywood here.
*CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS BUT READ AHEAD IF YOU’VE READ BOOK 1*
Holly has it all but she can’t actually share all her secrets with anyone except Serena who already knows the most of it being the executive’s daughter and Holly’s friend. Everything around her is a mess and things are getting more and more complicated as days are passing by. She’s juggling with her double life but the question is how longer can she keep but before her secret comes out?
In this book, Holly’s life is more complicated as she’s also dating Grayson and Lacey is upset with her. But as she said in book 1 that she was going to mend their relationship, she does nothing of that sort. Instead Holly turns so selfish in this book that I could hardly recognise her with the girl in book 1. Yes, I know Lacey isn’t a great person but what Holly did was actually more terrible. But thankfully her common sense came back and she confessed and did the most of it to redo the consequences. I liked the fact that she did her best to return to her original version and be the girl that everybody loved, though it took her a lot of time to understand that what she was doing was actually wrong and she was being too self centered. I loved how she mended all her relationships that had gone all wrong and did the best to be a better person.
The romance was okay but I really wanted to see more communication between Holly and Grayson but we didn’t get to see that so I didn’t actually root for these two as much I wanted to. I liked the friendship aspect in this book and I loved Serena. She’s the perfect friend, always coming to rescue. I would love to have a friend like her. Although she’s so famous and rich she’s not snobbish and bitchy like Lacey. I wanted to see more about the singing accept but there was almost nothing about it, I hope we get to see more about it in the next book.
This book was written in diary format as well, like the first book. The writing style didn’t bother me much in this book because I was sort of comfortable with it after reading the first book. The writing was simple and easy to read. I easily finished this book in one sitting and the pace was even throughout the book.
Overall, I enjoyed reading Holly Hearts Headlines. The plot was good and there was character development. I wanted to see more about the singing aspect and hopefully we’ll get to see it in book 3. The writing was smooth and the pace was even throughout the book.
Yes if you enjoyed book 1.
