Blurb (from Goodreads):
She’s an elite. He’s a wolf and an outcast. Their forbidden passion will move worlds.
Everyone knows that wolves love with a passion that can be dangerous. They imprint on a woman and never let her go. From the moment they love their female, they will kill for her, and die for her.
Lyla is more than rich. She’s one of The Elite, a paranormal class that rules society with an iron fist. She arrives in Manhattan to begin training as an enforcer.
Zac is an orphan, an outcast, and a shifter. Turning into a wolf is an unforgivable crime in the elite regime. Enforcers hunt down and kill anyone who can shift.
When Zac and Lyla meet, they know love is hopeless, but their powerful attraction is simply too great. Fighting to overcome the ruthlessness of their society, Zac and Lyla learn that true love can overcome any obstacle, but not without dire consequences.
First of all, I loove the cover, it’s so beautiful and gorgeous. I did enjoy the storyline of this book though I didn’t fall in love with it but I did enjoy the ride.
Lyla is an elite, she has grown up into a strict family where she is groomed to become an enforcer, the one who kills the shifters mercilessly. She has been promised to her sadist uncle, Oswald for marriage since her childhood and she has no freedom of her own though she dreams of breaking free from this ruthless society. Zac is a shifter, he comes to New York with his friend Jason to start a new life where he meets Lyla and they both fall in love with each other. He realises she is his fated mate and he would do anything to protect her and keep her safe. But when the elite society, or rather Oswald declares full on war on the common people, they have to decide what’s worth fighting for.
The plot was nice. It was definitely different and fresh. But I do think it had much more potential but it felt flat for me but nonetheless it was enjoyable. I enjoyed the description of the elite society and how they ruled by their iron fist. They thought of the shifters as the lowest category of animals and they wanted to wipe them out of the society. It was pretty ruthless what they did to the shifters they caught. I liked the action, it was pretty fast paced and I loved Lyla’s powers and how she took control of it. I do love forbidden romance but the romance here was somewhat okay for me. It was insta-love and there was no build up between the two characters. They just met one day and they were in love the next day, I understand they were fated mates but still it just happened to fast. But I did like their interactions.
I had a hard time connecting with the characters but nonetheless I liked them. Lyla was an elite, she was groomed to be a torturer but she was full of compassion. She didn’t want to be ruthless like her so-called father who was famous for inventing the torture system. I definitely liked her compassionate side, she was also sweet and caring. Zac was impulsive, mainly it was because of his shifter instinct. But he was fiercely protective of Lyla. He was ready to give up on his life if something happened to Lyla.
I liked the other side characters. Stella, Lyla friend, was quite like her, stuck in a ruthless life, but she was a good friend. Zac’s friends Jason and Jackman were really nice and loyal as well.
The writing was simple and smooth. It was pretty fast paced which I definitely liked. I raced through the book and finished it quite easily. Some portions did feel like a bit repetitive but I breezed through it. It was quite a fast read.
Shifter: City of Wolves was a book that I did enjoy though it didn’t leave any permanent mark on me. The plot was nice, it was different but it felt a little flat for me. The characters were nice. The writing style was smooth and it was fast paced. The romance was okay for me but I did enjoy the action very much.
