Blurb (from Goodreads):
It’s been six months since Ashlyn Daniels was kicked out of her home. Six months since she stood up to her abusive stepfather and got a busted rib—and seeing all her things set ablaze in a backyard bonfire—for her trouble. Never going back. She doesn’t need trouble…especially if trouble is tattoo artist Lane Garrett, who’s six-feet-plus of tattooed hotness and a complete ass.
Lane has spent the last decade fighting to support his family. To protect them. There’s no room for romance, even with a fragile (yet amusingly feisty) stunner…even if she somehow manages to invade his world and his heart.
But while some secrets are as visible as ink on the skin, others must remain hidden at all costs…
This book was epic! I loved it so much. The romance, the chemistry everything was so well executed. I’m so glad I signed up for this one. 🙂
The story revolves around a girl named Ashlyn. When she was 10, her mom remarried. Her step-dad is a controlling, hateful man who verbally and physically abused her and tore her down so much that she started to believe all the awful things he said about her. And when she finally stood up against him, she was beaten badly and thrown out of the house and she was left to fend for herself. She meets Lane, a tattoo artist through Emily, her only friend from work who takes her to him to cover up a tattoo of her ex-boyfriend’s name. Emily warns her about Lane but she can’t help but feel the pull towards him though at first he acted like jerk.
The plot was greatly executed. When Ashlyn and Lane first met, they both couldn’t stand each and wanted to get away as fast as possible but as they both came face to face frequently because of the tattoo thing they began to discover a different side of one another. Lane didn’t want a relationship right now because he had other important things to focus on yet he had a hard time staying away from Ashlyn and she wanted to give in as well but whenever she wanted to do anything, listen to her heart, the abusive words of her step father would ring in her ears and she would back up. I really loved when she actually faced off her father a second time and how at the end everything was resolved neatly as she finally came out of her shell.
The characters were definitely unique. I loved Ashlyn. I really felt bad for her for what she went through during her childhood. Instead of having a normal childhood, she had an abusive one which greatly affected her mind. That’s why she had a tendency to run away from the problems instead of facing them because she was afraid she would become exactly what her step father used to say. I felt a little mad at her because she choose to run again towards the end but finally after talking to Lane she agreed to give life a chance and listen to her heart.
Lane was a great character. At first, he seemed like an asshole but slowly slowly we learnt he had a wonderful side to him as well. He really was a great guy who cared a lot for his family and Harper. The Harper mystery was solved towards the beginning only, I was very close to guessing it. I actually loved this aspect very much. I won’t tell anything more about this, you guys have to read it to find out. Now, I can’t stop gushing about Lane! What can I say, he was just so sweet. When he saw that Ashlyn had nowhere to stay he offered her a place and also stocked up her food supply. He was so concerned about her. He knew something had happened to her and that made him so much more protective towards her. The romance was soo good and definitely hot! Argh..I really loved it. And I really loved Emily who was actually Lane’s sister. Without her they wouldn’t have met. As a person she was genuinely good and a great friend to Ashlyn.
The writing was beautiful and easy to read. It was well paced, neither too slow, nor too fast. This book was so addicting, I easily devoured it in one sitting. This book is another of my new favourites this year.
Overall, the plot was great, the characters were totally awsome and unique. The chemistry between them was really, really good. And the writing was gorgeous as well. I’m definitely going to read this over and over again in the future.
YEP. If you love New-Adult books along with hot and sizzling romance then you should definitely read this book.
It was her love of superheroes that first inspired her to pick up a pen. Her favorite things to write about are ordinary girls who find themselves in extraordinary situations.
