Thursday Quotables is a weekly feature held by Bookshelf Fantasies. It is the place to highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during our reading each week. Whether it’s something funny, startling, gut-wrenching, or just really beautifully written, Thursday Quotables is where my favorite lines of the week will be.
This week I’m sharing one of my favourite quotes from Macbeth by William Shakespeare.
“Stars, hide your fires;
Let not light see my black and deep desires.”
This line spoken by Macbeth creates a beautiful yet frightning image that depicts the moral revulsion that Macbeth feels about his own intended act of murdering Duncan and that’s why he feels compelled to evoke the darkness.
